You don’t hear Nicolas Jaar come on stage. You barely see him. And then slowly, you hear a faint sound building up, Jaar teasing the audience. The Roundhouse in Camden provides the perfect venue for his sound to echo and bounce off the walls. Finally, the drop in, and for the next hour and a half, you’re about to listen to some of the best electronic music out there.

If you haven’t heard the name Nicolas Jaar, you’ve been missing out, because what’s in store for him is big. At just 21, New York based Jaar is making an impact on the music scene. Described as ‘organic electronic’ and ‘blue wave’, his music is raw. As Jaar played a continuous set, the audience went through an emotional rollercoaster, from ecstasy to nostaligia and back. Currently touring his debut album released in May 2010 Space is Only Noise on his label Clown and Sunset, his set delivered new and old sounds, with tracks off his earlier EPs Mi Mujer and And I Say featuring Scout Larue and Will Epstein. At one point, there was also a guitarist, which initially you’re not sure is going to work, but Jaar pulls it off.

As his set ends, the crowd makes their way to the doors. People are sweaty and exhausted- and they’re smiling. Nicolas Jaar delivers, proving that one man can make a big impact.
